KZT is Kurzzeittherapie (short-term therapy), LZT is Langzeittherapie (long-term therapy). How many sessions remain before KZT 2 can be requested, what is the latest point for requesting conversion to long-term therapy, and how many hours remain before the approval step and the maximum?
Scope: individual therapy for adults. Group therapy and combined treatment have different limits and are not calculated here. The calculator is for orientation and does not replace reading the guideline (Psychotherapie-Richtlinie, PT-RL) and the rules of your Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (Kassenärztliche Vereinigung). Values as of 4 October 2026.
Result
The values used
- Short-term therapy: two steps (KZT 1 and KZT 2) of 12 hours each (PT-RL § 29 nos. 1 and 2; Psychotherapie-Vereinbarung § 11 para. 5).
- KZT 2: can be requested after 7 sessions of KZT 1 at the earliest (§ 11 para. 5 sentence 3).
- Conversion to long-term therapy: must be requested by the 8th session of KZT 2 at the latest (§ 11 para. 5 sentence 4).
- Long-term therapy: approval step and maximum per approach (PT-RL § 30), in each case cumulative including the credited KZT hours.
